Over time the GDAC changed its focus from a professional body to a community group. Thus KBULG has a broader scope with greater emphasis on community involvement in developing education programs and activities and in promoting community awareness of land care. FAUNA Karlkurla Bush land Park is home to many animals. The walk gives participants an gratitude of the Goldfields' environment including plant identification and information about the local fauna. This book has been developed to provide an appreciation of the outstanding bush land around Kalgoorlie Boulder, and in particular, the plant species found in Karlkurla Bush land Park. It was fantastic to see community and corporate groups, mining companies, families and individuals arrive together to do their bit for the local environment by helping to green the goldfields’ and work towards a better environment for the entire community of Kalgoorlie Boulder. With an estimated 300 people attending the weather was incredible and the community succeeded in planting approximately 3700 native trees and shrubs, all grown locally at the Karlkurla Community Nursery. KBULG would like to thank Western Power who sponsored this event and everyone who turned up to do their bit for our environment and our community, it was outrageous to see such a dedicated community future together. We thank everyone who came along and participated during the day. Your incredible efforts assist create a better environment. Your incredible efforts help create a better environment and a better lifestyle for the community of Kalgoorlie Boulder. The day would not be possible of course without our sponsors and a big thank you go out to Western Power (Greening Challenge), the Minister for Environments Community Conservation grants, and last but not minimum the City of Kalgoorlie Boulder. As portion of the day, KBULG organized a Community and Corporate Resist for local businesses and community groups. The area was also mulched and landscaped and walk paths have been installed to permit residents and visitors to appreciate the area. The group enables KBULG to present thousands of plants to local schools and community groups each year.The Native Plant Group has an onceperyear 2 hour sale to definite out the shade house in preparation for the after years seeding, allowing members of the public to purchase local species. Amplify the number and variety of local native plants grown in local gardens. Judges were particularly impressed with the amount of effort and planning which had gone into the many gardens and the use of a variety of native species, edible plants, mulch and weed free verges. Entries were plentiful and varied, and the judges were highly impressed by the presented efforts showcasing techniques to create visually attractive, healthy maintained gardens that can be successfully managed under local semi dry conditions. The 2010 Water Knowing Garden Competition had many nominations across the categories with garden styles varying greatly native, cottage, cactus, formal and informal gardens were all presented for judging. The Judges this year were particularly looking at the effort and love gardeners placed into the gardens. The judges were particularly impressed with the amount of effort and planning which had gone into the many gardens and the use of native and exotic species, mulch and weed free verges. Their water smart garden full of Goldfields native plants has been developed over less than two years. The competition and corresponding exhibition places major emphasis on educating the community, in notable the younger generation, about the importance of recycling by spreading the key message of Reuse, Decrease and Recycle. KBULG is a member of this group and brings special emphasis on education and promotion for Junior Land concern students and general community involvement. The native plants garden is truly a water scholarly garden as the plants were only watered during the beginning summer and are now growing healthy without reticulation. The City of Kalgoorlie Boulder has done a incredible job with some great projects and events that bring a lot of life to the City, and this recognition is wholeheartedly deserved, he said.
